What is Art Pottery and how is it different?

Art pottery is a value adding process where a piece is given extra features by altering shapes, adding patterns, glaze art, or appendages to the
standard pottery piece.

Take the case of adding glaze art.  A standard piece is created, dried, and bisque fired in the kiln.  It is them dipped or poured with glaze and
the excess removed (which takes less than a minute), dried again and fired. This is labor intensive but can be mass produced.  The same
procedure is used in the first three steps for a glaze art piece.  The glazing step is much different in that the glaze is applied by hand brushing
the glaze on in three or four layers, each directly on top of the other.  Any detail must not only be reproduced accurately in multiple layers, but
the outline of that detail must be hand painted three or four times so the detail is preserved. It takes about 4 hours to glaze one of my 12”
